Ulysses was a robotic space probe whose primary mission was to orbit the Sun and study it at all latitudes, a joint venture of the European Space Agency and NASA led by ESA with participation from the Canadian National Research Council. Launched in 1990, it made three fast latitude scans of the Sun, in 1994 and 1995, 2000 and 2001, and 2007 and 2008, and it also studied several comets along the way. Mission operations on Ulysses ended on June 30, 2009.
