Genesis

Space Probe

Genesis was a NASA sample-return probe that collected particles of solar wind and returned them to Earth for laboratory analysis, the first NASA sample-return mission to bring back material since the Apollo program and the first ever to return material from beyond the orbit of the Moon. It launched on August 8, 2001, but a design flaw prevented its sample return capsule parachute from deploying, and the capsule crash-landed in Utah on September 8, 2004. The crash contaminated many of its sample collectors, though some were still successfully recovered and studied.
