Ranger 4

Space Probe

Ranger 4 was a spacecraft of the American Ranger program, launched in 1962, designed to transmit pictures of the lunar surface to Earth stations during the final ten minutes of flight before crashing into the Moon, to rough land a seismometer capsule there, to collect gamma ray data in flight, to study the radar reflectivity of the lunar surface, and to continue testing of Ranger program technology for future lunar and interplanetary spacecraft.
