Dawn

Space Probe

Dawn was a NASA space probe launched in September 2007 to study the two largest bodies in the asteroid belt, Vesta and Ceres. It entered orbit around Vesta in July 2011 and around Ceres in March 2015, becoming the first spacecraft to orbit two extraterrestrial bodies and the first to orbit a dwarf planet. The mission ended in November 2018 when the spacecraft depleted its hydrazine fuel. It was built by Orbital Sciences Corporation, with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory providing management and the ion propulsion system.
