Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Directorate

The Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Directorate (ARES) is a division of NASA Johnson Space Center that performs physical science research and serves as the center focal point for NASA Science Mission Directorate. ARES scientists provide expertise in areas including orbital debris modeling, micrometeoroid risk analysis and Earth observations, and the directorate maintains custody of all NASA-held extraterrestrial samples. It supports both human and robotic spaceflight programs and works with NASA Office of Safety and Mission Assurance, conducting research across Earth, planetary and space sciences.
