Zero Gravity Research Facility

The Zero Gravity Research Facility is a drop-tower testing site at NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, established in 1966 to study how systems, components, liquids, gases and combustion behave in microgravity. A test package falls through a 510-foot underground shaft housing a 470-foot vacuum chamber, giving roughly 5.15 seconds of near weightlessness before it lands in a deceleration cart. The facility has supported both crewed spacecraft programs and a large number of uncrewed research projects.
