Spaceport America

Spaceport America is an FAA-licensed commercial spaceport described as the worlds first purpose-built facility of its kind, situated on 18,000 acres in the Jornada del Muerto desert basin of New Mexico, roughly 45 miles north of Las Cruces. It is operated by the New Mexico Spaceport Authority, a state agency, and supports both vertical and horizontal launch vehicles for commercial spaceflight, suborbital launches and aerospace testing. Although its first rocket launch took place in 2006, the spaceport was officially declared open on October 18, 2011, and became fully operational in August 2019 once Virgin Galactic completed its interior facilities; Virgin Galactics May 2021 human spaceflight from the site made New Mexico the third U.S. state to launch people into space.
