Mercury Control Center

Space Agencies of Northern America

Mercury Control Center, also known as Building 1385, was NASA's command facility for Project Mercury and the earliest Gemini missions, at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. It operated from 1961 through the mid 1960s, coordinating flights that lasted no more than about 36 hours aboard relatively simple spacecraft, with monitoring stations for spacecraft telemetry and astronaut condition and positions supporting launch and recovery. As missions grew more complex, flight control shifted to the Mission Control Center in Houston, and the original building was demolished around 2010, though its consoles and equipment were preserved and are now on public display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
