Lunar and Planetary Institute

The Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) is a scientific research organization, founded in 1969 and based in Houston, Texas, that studies the Solar System, including its formation, evolution and current state. Part of the Universities Space Research Association and supported by NASA Science Mission Directorate funding, it serves as a hub for visiting researchers, postdoctoral fellows and students while maintaining expertise in planetary science through peer-reviewed research. The institute manages access to NASA astromaterials samples and planetary data, publishes newsletters, and hosts conferences and workshops, including the annual Lunar and Planetary Science Conference held each March in the Houston area.
