MDA Space Ltd. is a Canadian space technology company headquartered in Brampton, Ontario, that provides geointelligence, robotics, space operations and satellite systems. The company traces its founding to 1969 in Vancouver by John S. MacDonald and Vern Dettwiler, and it manufactures the Canadarm and Canadarm2 robotic systems used on the space shuttle and International Space Station. MDA returned to Canadian ownership in 2020 after being acquired by Northern Private Capital for about 1 billion Canadian dollars, began trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker MDA in April 2021, and rebranded from MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates to MDA Space in March 2024.
