The El Salvador Aerospace Institute, known as ESAI, is the national space agency of El Salvador, headquartered in San Salvador. It began in 2012 as a small group of Salvadoran scientists focused on STEM programs, started by philanthropist and politician Luis Alfaro, and became the official national space agency of the country on 7 September 2021. Before that formal status, it had already gained recognition from the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, the European Space Agency and university space engineering consortia.
