The Institute of Aeronautics and Space, known in Portuguese as Instituto de Aeronautica e Espaco, is a military research organization operating under the Brazilian Air Force Department of Aerospace Science and Technology. It was established on 1 January 1954 and refounded in 1991 through a merger of Brazil Institute of Space Activities and Institute of Development and Research. The institute develops rockets, launch vehicles and satellites for Brazil space program, including the VLM-1 rocket for the Brazilian Space Agency, the VSB-30 and 14-X vehicles for the Air Force, and the Sonda series, VS-30, VS-40 and VLS sounding rockets and launch vehicles.
