Rocket Propulsion Establishment

The Rocket Propulsion Establishment was a UK military research site at RAF Westcott in Westcott, Buckinghamshire, founded in April 1946, that made significant contributions to British rocket propulsion technology. Also known as the Guided Projectiles Establishment and PERME Westcott (Propellants, Explosives and Rocket Motor Establishment, Westcott), it contributed to major defense projects including the Blue Streak missile and the Chevaline warhead propulsion systems. For many years the site was regarded as so secret that it was not marked on Ordnance Survey maps, though it appeared on pilot navigation charts by necessity. The site later became Westcott Venture Park, a business park hosting a Nammo division that continues LEROS rocket engine production and, since 2021, the UK National Propulsion Test Facility.
