The Space Research and Technology Institute, known as SRTI BAS, is the primary research body for space science of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, headquartered in Sofia. Its mission covers fundamental and applied studies in space physics, remote sensing of the Earth and planets, and aerospace systems and technologies. It was established in 1987 as the Space Research Institute, succeeding the earlier Central Laboratory for Space Research of the Academy; it merged with the Solar Terrestrial Influences Institute in 2010 and took its current name in 2012.
