Israel's national space agency, officially founded in Tel Aviv in July 1983 to coordinate the country's space program. Backed the privately built Beresheet lunar lander, which crash-landed on the Moon on 11 April 2019 after taking two final photographs, a self-portrait against the lunar surface and a close view of the ground below, moments before impact; had it landed safely, Israel would have become the fourth nation to soft-land a spacecraft on the Moon.
