Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite

The Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite, also known as Ibuki, is an Earth observation satellite and the world's first satellite dedicated to monitoring greenhouse gases. It measures the density of carbon dioxide and methane at fifty six thousand locations across Earth's atmosphere. The satellite was developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and launched on 23 January 2009 from the Tanegashima Space Center. Japan's Ministry of the Environment and the National Institute for Environmental Studies use its data to track gases that cause the greenhouse effect, and share that data with NASA and other international scientific organizations.
