Mars 2020 Mission

Robotic Mars Exploration Missions

Mars 2020 is a NASA mission within the Mars Exploration Program that includes the Perseverance rover, the small robotic helicopter Ingenuity and the associated delivery systems. It launched on an Atlas V rocket on July 30, 2020, and landed in Jezero crater on February 18, 2021, a site NASA later named Octavia E. Butler Landing. Perseverance investigates an ancient environment on Mars of interest to astrobiology, assessing its past habitability and the possibility of past life. Ingenuity operated on Mars for 1,042 sols before damage to its rotor blades led NASA to retire it on January 25, 2024.
