Clementine Mission

Robotic Lunar Exploration Missions

Clementine, officially the Deep Space Program Science Experiment, was a partially failed joint project of the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization and NASA, launched on January 25, 1994. Its objective was to test sensors and spacecraft components during long-term exposure to space and to make scientific observations of the Moon and of the near-Earth asteroid 1620 Geographos. Its lunar observations included imaging at visible, ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths, laser ranging altimetry, gravimetry and charged particle measurements, intended to produce multispectral imaging of the whole lunar surface and a map of its mineralogy.
