Landers sent to the surface of Mars by European space organizations, whether alone or as part of a joint mission with a partner agency. Beagle 2, a British lander carried to Mars by the European Space Agency's Mars Express in 2003, and Schiaparelli, the entry, descent and landing demonstrator module of the ExoMars program built for the European Space Agency and Roscosmos, both set out to touch down on the planet and both were lost. A lander belongs here when its cited source names the European Space Agency or a European national space organization as its builder or operator. American and Soviet landers have groups of their own in this subcategory.
