TransOrbital

Lunar and Deep-Space Exploration Companies

TransOrbital was a California-based private spaceflight company that became the first private firm granted permission by the United States government to explore, photograph and land on the Moon. It planned to launch the TrailBlazer lunar orbiter as the first privately financed science mission to the Moon, intending to stream live video and photograph the Apollo landing sites, and in 2002 it launched a test satellite of the same name into Earth orbit aboard a Dnepr rocket. The company drew coverage in more than 2,000 news articles and a 2003 sponsorship from Hewlett-Packard before becoming defunct.
