Excalibur Almaz

Excalibur Almaz Limited was a privately held commercial spaceflight company based in Douglas, Isle of Man, founded in 2005 and ceasing operations in 2016. It planned to offer crewed missions to deep space, the Moon and asteroids, along with low Earth orbit cargo and crew delivery, by acquiring four Soviet-era VA re-entry capsules and two Almaz space station modules and modernizing them with contemporary avionics rather than building new spacecraft from scratch. The company projected this approach would save roughly two billion dollars in development costs compared with a clean-sheet design, though it never flew a crewed mission.
