Marianne Merchez

Marianne Merchez is a Belgian medical doctor and former European Space Agency astronaut who earned her medical degree from the Catholic University of Louvain and holds certifications in aerospace and industrial medicine as well as a Belgian Air Transport Pilot License. She was selected as part of the 1992 European Space Agency astronaut group but never flew to space, and her astronaut status is listed as retired with no completed missions. She is married to fellow ESA astronaut Maurizio Cheli, with whom she co-authored a book on the decisions that shape a life's journey.
