Wubbo Ockels was a Dutch physicist and European Space Agency astronaut who became the first Dutch citizen to fly in space, serving as a payload specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger mission STS-61-A in 1985, which carried a record eight-person crew and the second flight of the Spacelab module. It was his only spaceflight. Ockels later became a prominent advocate for sustainable energy and aviation research in the Netherlands.
