Christer Fuglesang

Christer Fuglesang is a Swedish physicist who holds a doctorate in experimental particle physics from Stockholm University and worked as a fellow at CERN before joining the European Astronaut Corps in May 1992. He trained with NASA and qualified as a mission specialist in 1998, then flew two Space Shuttle missions, STS-116 in December 2006 and STS-128 in August 2009, becoming the first Swedish citizen in space. Across the two missions he completed five spacewalks totaling almost 32 hours, at the time the most of any astronaut outside the American or Russian space programs.
