Redshift

Also Known As Red shift
Cosmology and the Early Universe

The stretching of light toward longer, redder wavelengths as its source moves away from an observer. Edwin Hubble's 1929 observation that more distant galaxies show greater redshift provided the key early evidence that the universe is expanding.
