Michael McKay

Michael McKay is a Canadian Armed Forces aeronautical engineer with the rank of captain, born May 10, 1963, in Bracebridge, Ontario, who was selected in 1992 as one of the initial four astronauts of the Canadian Space Agency's Space Team Canada program alongside Chris Hadfield, Julie Payette and Dafydd Williams. He never flew to space, working instead on the Advanced Space Vision System and the Canadarm robotic arms for the International Space Station and serving as mission manager for the STS-85 Space Shuttle mission, before resigning from the Astronaut Corps in early 1995 for medical reasons. He returned to active military service in October 1997, overseeing human resource and education development for the Canadian Armed Forces Military Space Program at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa.
