Retired Royal Canadian Air Force colonel, test pilot and Canadian Space Agency astronaut. He flew on two Space Shuttle missions and a long-duration stay aboard the International Space Station, becoming in 2013 the first Canadian to command the ISS during Expedition 35. He is also known for his prolific use of social media in orbit, which brought space exploration to a broad public audience.
