Shannon Lucid is an American biochemist and former NASA astronaut who flew five spaceflights during her career, including a lengthy 1996 stay aboard the Russian space station Mir that set a new endurance record for an American astronaut and for a woman worldwide at the time, at nearly 188 days. Her extended stay was extended further by Space Shuttle launch delays, and for a time she held the record for the most spaceflight experience of any woman in the world.
