Vance Brand was an American NASA astronaut and former United States Marine Corps aviator who served as command module pilot on the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, the first joint American-Soviet crewed spaceflight, docking his Apollo spacecraft with a Soviet Soyuz capsule in orbit. He later commanded three Space Shuttle missions, including the second-ever Shuttle flight, becoming one of the few astronauts to fly in both the Apollo and Shuttle eras of American spaceflight.
