Serena Maria Auñón-Chancellor (born 1976) is an American physician, engineer and NASA astronaut. She earned a degree in electrical engineering before completing medical school and training in internal and aerospace medicine, and she worked as a flight surgeon for NASA before her own selection as an astronaut in 2009. Auñón-Chancellor's sole spaceflight to date was a long-duration mission to the International Space Station as a member of Expeditions 56 and 57, launching in June 2018 and returning in December 2018 after roughly 197 days in orbit, during which she conducted scientific research and station maintenance. Following her flight, Auñón-Chancellor moved into a management role within NASA's Human Health and Performance programs, where she oversees medical policy and crew health matters for International Space Station missions as well as NASA's planned lunar and other exploration-class missions, drawing on her combined medical and engineering background.
