Wally Schirra was one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts and the only person to fly in all three of NASAs first human spaceflight programs, piloting Mercury-Atlas 8 in 1962, commanding Gemini 6A in 1965, and commanding Apollo 7 in 1968, the first crewed flight of the Apollo program following the fatal Apollo 1 fire. Known for his sense of humor, Schirra also gave his name to the Schirra grin, and he later worked as a television commentator alongside Walter Cronkite during subsequent Apollo missions.
