Ellen Ochoa

Ellen Ochoa is an American engineer and former NASA astronaut who became the first Hispanic woman to fly in space, aboard a Space Shuttle Discovery mission in 1993, and who flew a total of four Shuttle missions during her career. Before becoming an astronaut she worked as a research engineer specializing in optical systems, holding several patents. Ochoa later served as director of NASAs Johnson Space Center, becoming the first Hispanic person and the second woman to lead a NASA field center.
