Owen Garriott

Owen Garriott was an American electrical engineer and NASA astronaut who served as a science pilot on the second crewed mission to the Skylab space station in 1973, spending nearly sixty days in orbit conducting solar and materials science research. He later flew aboard a Space Shuttle mission in 1983 carrying the first Spacelab module. Garriott was also an active amateur radio operator who made some of the first amateur radio contacts from space, and his son Richard Garriott later became a private spaceflight participant himself.
