Sunita Williams is an American NASA astronaut and retired United States Navy officer of Indian and Slovenian descent. She has completed multiple long-duration missions to the International Space Station, at one point holding the record for the most cumulative spacewalk time by a woman, and commanded ISS Expedition 33. In 2024 Williams flew as one of two crew members on the first crewed test flight of the Boeing Starliner spacecraft, which experienced thruster and propulsion problems that led NASA to keep the crew aboard the space station for an extended stay rather than return them on Starliner.
