David M. Brown

David M. Brown was an American physician and United States Navy officer who flew as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia mission STS-107 in January 2003, his only spaceflight. Before joining NASA he served as a Navy flight surgeon and later trained as a naval aviator himself, an unusual dual qualification. Brown was among the seven crew members killed when Columbia broke apart during reentry over Texas on February 1, 2003.
