Interlune is an American private space company headquartered in Seattle, Washington, founded in 2020 by former Blue Origin executives Rob Meyerson and Gary Lai together with former Apollo 17 astronaut Harrison Schmitt. The company aims to become the first private venture to harvest lunar natural resources for commercial purposes, developing a four step excavate, sort, extract and separate system to mine helium-3 from the Moon. Interlune has signed contracts worth about five hundred million dollars to sell helium-3 for quantum computer cooling to customers including the United States Department of Energy, Bluefors of Helsinki and Maybell Quantum, with a mission to validate lunar helium-3 concentrations planned for 2027 ahead of a pilot harvesting plant it intends to place on the Moon by 2029.
