Benson Space Company

Human Spaceflight and Space Station Companies

Benson Space Company was a civilian spaceflight venture founded on September 28, 2006 by James William Benson, who had previously chaired the aerospace company SpaceDev. It aimed to offer low-cost suborbital astronaut flights to the public by purchasing Dream Chaser spacecraft from SpaceDev and flying them with hybrid rocket motors, positioning itself to be first to market in the emerging space tourism industry. Benson's diagnosis with a brain tumor in spring 2008 and his death that October led to the company's dissolution before it flew any missions.
